Dear Forum Family,
I feel a little awkward posting this, but it's important enough to me to risk feeling awkward.
My daughter, Gracie, whom we adopted at birth and is now 15 years old, is going in for open heart surgery on Feb 24th. She has a leaking mitral valve and it's getting bad enough that they have to repair it or her quality and length of life will be greatly diminished. This type surgery usually goes well with no complications, a full recovery and a much improved life. This is what I am asking prayer for.
Thanks in advance,
George
My friend, Your Daughter will be in all my prayers!
Have a positive attitude! Try to keep her confident as well. The conditions will certainly improve ^^
Soon she will be in perfect health
Lets all hope and pray the surgery goes well, and the recovery even better for Gracie
Sincerely,
Afonso
Thanks Afonso.
Hi George,
I'm sorry to hear this.
However, surgery these days is very successful, so I think her chances are very good.
I have a nephew who was born with heart problems, and had a very slim chance of survival. But his parents never gave up hope through his many surgeries. I think their attitude influenced his desire for survival. He is now 27 and his regular checkups are still positive.
So keep a positive attitude, keep her confident, and all should be fine.
Michael
I am honest. I don't pray much, but i wish her smooth successful surgery. And feeling well after it . I think it is safe. And everything is gonna be OK.
Thanks guys,
We're staying positive. This is her second open heart surgery. Her first was when she was 5 months old. She did very well in that one. It's amazing how quickly infants recover from surgeries.
Then she didn't understand what was going on, now she does, so of course she's very anxious. Modern medicine is pretty remarkable. This would have been unheard of a hundred years ago.
Thanks again
There is nothing to feel awkward about, my friend. Prayer is what brings us all together as humans. Your strength in asking says alot about you. I am confident your daughter will find a successful surgery and quick recovery.
Prayer .... just do it !
Best, Wally
I wish you all the best, I am sure she will be fine,
Regards,
Alf
Dear George,
Everything will be fine. Don't worry too much. My blessings to your child.
Dear George,
I wish your daughter all the best. Family is very important and you need to be there for them. You need to make her as relaxed as possible. Everything will be fine. You and you family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Wishing you all the best.

As people have already said, modern medicine is wonderful, but it is only natural to feel anxious. But know this... Your daughter will be in my thoughts and prayers.

A side note. Our friend Flatino just mentioned as an aside comment in a PM that he was struggling with the flu right now so let's remember him also.

Godspeed GLC. I will be praying for your daughter.
@George >>
I will keep your daughter in my daily prayers. Also, my mom belongs to a LARGE church congregation, around 500 strong. They take names/situations, people that are having troubles etc.
I gave the info to my mom, they (as a 500 group) will do a prayer for your daughter.
I'm not sure I understand it but I guess, prayers in higher numbers is 'good'? I dont know but it is done my friend.
Ken

Ivica my friend,
Thank you so much for your heartfelt concern. I will be very grateful for your churches prayers. I must tell you that my daughter has caught a cold or the flu and they may have to delay the surgery until she is well. But, God hears our prayers and He knows when the time is right. No prayer will be without value or go unappreciated.
I will keep everyone posted.

Hey GLC, how is your daughter doing?
Proof, thanks for you concern. As I posted in Flat's answer, she has caught a cold or maybe influenza and they will have to postpone the surgery until she's well unless she gets better quickly. We're on hold for right now.
Thanks,
George
All our thoughts are with you and your daughter.
Thank for the update George.
Thoughts with U always bro.
Prayers from Venezuela to over there.
Good thing the world is a "dot" for the lord, so transfer is instant!

To all my friends,
The doctor has confirmed that we cannot attempt the heart surgery until she is completely recovered from her cold. Too great a risk for pneumonia and other complications.
Once she is well we will reschedule.
I'll let everyone know the new date when we know what it is.
Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes.
George
This is my first visit to this section of the forum. Looking forward to hearing that your daughter has made a speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with you my friend.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you for your prayers and warm thoughts for my daughter.
Unfortunately, her cold only got worse and so they have cancelled her surgery until she is fully recovered.
We have a tentative date for Mar 31. Hopefully she will stay well.
Thanks again.
George
Dear George,
Almighty God will listen our prayers. Rest assured.

Still praying.

Everything will be alright this time. When sun sets, it rises again next morning even brighter. We all are waiting for the morning George.
Thanks everyone.
Al's poetic words reminded me of a verse from the Bible. Psalm 30:5b "...weeping may last for the night, but joy comes in the morning." I believe that with all our prayers this verse will prove true.
I must say, I never dreamed I would get this much support on a forum dedicated to gambling.
You just never know where you'll find support for life's trials.
May God bless all of you and your families even as you have blessed me and my family.
George
Dear George,
We are here a family too and not just a bunch of ordinary gamblers.

Thanks everyone.
We just got word from the hospital that her surgery will start at 7:30 AM Mountain Standard Time on 31 Mar.
I'll keep you posted.
George
Everything looks good with Gracie.
Unfortunately, because she had an open heart surgery when she was 5 months old there was a lof of scar tissue that they had to remove, and they had to sew a ring around the valve to give it more support, and they had to do an oblation on her right atrium to correct some minor irratic heartbeats. Then, about 3 hours after the surgery, she started bleeding pretty badly, so they had to go back in. It was pretty tense for a while, but they finally got everything to stop bleeding and this morning she's doing great and they're going to remove the breathing tube.
Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers.
George
Dear George,
Stay calm and everything is going to be fine soon.
Glad things are looking good mate :)
Please pass on the Forums best wishes to Gracie :)

Thanks again guys, I'm pulling the night shift with Gracie at the hospital.
She's looking much better. Not so swollen now.
She's having trouble with breathing. I guess pneumonia is a big worry.
She seems to be gradually getting better, so for now it's thing at a time.
the heart is Ok, that's most important. she will overcome pneumonia. my wishes to get well
ASAP!
These incidents just strengthen our belief in God and good deeds.
@George >> I'm happy everything worked out! The power of prayer!!
Ken
Good morning all.
Good news. Lungs are both full open and oxygen saturation in blood is 100. Still on a breathing mask for now. Doctors said they're going to get her up and start her walking today. ;D

Okay here's my last post on Gracie.
She's down to only 1 I.V. just to make blood draws and administering medication easier. She's walking more and more. She was watching an old video of a school play and she was laughing and having a good time.
She's still in intensive care, but they're going to move her to a regular room today I think.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. She thinks she is the most special little girl in the world because she has so many people from all around the world who know that she even exists and were praying for her. ;D
I think this forum's the best "system" we've come up with.
George
Excellent News George
Great news mate.
Awesome George,
From the regular room it is just "one step" to going home :)
B.T.W, tell her she is special indeed...

How is she now?
Quote from: albalaha on Apr 08, 08:59 PM 2011
How is she now?
Thanks for asking Albalaha. She's home and doing well. She has some arrhythmia from the trauma to the heart which she takes medication for. We found out that they did 4 procedures instead of 1 while they had her open. They repaired her mitral valve. The repair wasn't perfect so they had to sew in a ring of some kind to hold the valve together better. Then they had to do some repair to some repair she had done to her aortic and pulmonary arteries when she was 5 months old. After 15 years that work was showing signs of wear. And they had to do a Maze procedure to minimize some arrhythmias they saw in the muscles of her right atrium.
But, after all that, 9 days later she's home watching TV and being pretty much her old self. Has to stay calm and no physical activity for about a week, but after that she should be as good as new. Well almost.
The biggest problem is that she got spoiled by the nurses in the hospital running to her beck and call and now she expects mom and dad to do the same. It's a rude awakening for her because we are in our 60's and the nurses were in their 30's. Big difference. Of course it's hard not to spoil her a little.
It was a dark night, but now it's a beautiful, happy morning my friend.
George
She will improve gradually for sure.
I'm glad Grace is at home and seeming herself. You also GLC seem to be faring well through all of this. Bravo!
What a relief. So happy to hear that she's home,George.
cool. This arithmia is supposed to finish soon? Is it something troubling or just a little temp thing after the surgery? What do the doctors say about it? hopefully will be over soon?
u made me laugh about spoiling her in the hospital. I wish u this to be your biggest problem
Thank you for this wonderful news George. I had read somewhere else about Gracie having heart surgery so was glad to find this thread with the good news. I've been keeping her in my prayers and will continue to do so. Hugs to you. K
