I'm an advocate of responsible gambling. Very passionate about it.

gambling is a very exciting hobby, and gets more so, the more knowledgeable you get at it.

It concerns me greatly that the UK is a complete hotbed of gambling outlets. Bookmakers (high street bookmaker shops) but more so online gambling.

There must be 30 or so online gambling companies. Betfair, Bet Fred, 32 red, ladbrokes, William hill, Nova, Grosvenor to name a few.

Every advertisement slot on TV has one or two online gambling adverts, with TV sponsorship.

The same now for women with online bingo  sites. About 15 of them.

Phone apps and gambling sponsorship during football games endorsed by high profile actors.

In harmony with all this are "quick loan" or "pay day loan" company's like Wonga and Quick Quid offering instant loans at 4000% APR

I worry for people.

We are a rare few on here. people who have an idea about odds and house edges, and RNG rigging....good bets, bad bets.....MM

The rest (99.8%?) havnt got a clue.

There must be millions of people suckered into the quick cash marketing of the UK gambling industry.

Thoughts?

To be honest, thats a part of my drive, to find a winning way against them.

Live casinos are "honest". Everyone understands, you cant win "longterm".

After several years on the forums I do however think some have made (or can make) a nice enough profit to call it quits : )

This will need a solid "short term" strategy.

How about this one Turner : )

We both go to the same LIVE online video casino at the same time which offers a $1000 bonus.

I bet Low you bet High.

One of us should win after meeting the betting requirements.

We split the profits!

Yes Turner valid to a certain level but how far should a Government go with controlling regulations to protect people from themselves ? Like the graphics they show on cigarettes displaying gross use caused ailments doesn't see many people giving up the nasty habit ?

I've seen figures on problem gambling & the social professionals that involve themselves with it. Poker/slot/fruit machines (same animal, different names) are 80% of games played by gamblers & so about the same % of counselling for gambling addictions. The reason given is that the slots dominate & that most players want the easy play & don't/can't want to have to work at thinking about their betting.

This is very obvious on the Party Casino site where they offer 4 different types of live games but 116 varieties of slot games. It's only like that as that's what the market (player) demands. Researchers have stated that most gamblers don't want to have to calculate betting options as in horse/dog racing & casino games.

What I would like to see is more open disclosure of the manipulation of results & operation of equipment both on line & at B & M casinos. RNG & the related equipment under the banner of EGM's (electronic gaming machines). Airball/auto wheel is one of these. Vegas Star RNG roulette is a prime example of smoke & mirrors, with HD video screens of real dealer spins, fooling lots of people every minute of every day.

The main problem is Politiicians (legislators) have little interest in gambling fine detail. IE having things better for the player. Some examples - Here in OZ bet providers have on line betting & all OK prior to the start of the event. It's after the start that unfathomable rules apply where for in play bet odds you can't bet it on line but can only make the bet by telephone, how lames that ? There's no on line national casino permitted, so players (including myself) have to operate an overseas A/C.  Then further afield you have certain casinos that restrict players in many countries. Paddy Power's a prime example where 1/2 + of Europe is blocked, USA (permanently blocked ?) & OZ too ?

What I want is less restrictions & more freedom of choice plus more information on the ripoffs/rigging that infests the gambling industry. Realistically I dont think will happen. I don't want to see restrictions because lots of people are weak willed.

As to the vast % of gamblers who haven't got a clue in many ways they are their own worst enemy. You only have to go to the member list on here to get an idea how miniscule the informed player are, 1,000 plus members & a lot of them that have joined have never posted ?  At a guess say we have 100 million gamblers in 1st world countries worldwide then using the CC's  1,000 + member numbers your 99.8% is overly generous, it's more like 99.9999% devoid of clues.

Sounds like the gaming lobby has a foothold in the government.  Is organizing a boycott possible?

ausguy

Proof - The Govt. does have a vested interest in the gambling industry in that they rake in 100's of millions $$$$$ from levees & taxes per annum. Effectively casino bosses do have a foothold in the right Govt.ears. So much so that Sydney NSW (New Sth.Wales State) & Melbourne (Victoria State) have a monopoly by legislation of being the only casino allowed in each State ? Maybe covering 5 million & 4 million people respectively ?

A boycott would be a futile exercise as historically the clueless 99.9999% gambling majority are not aware/interested in improving their gambling facilities ?

It would only create a wimper & be easily overwhelmed by the casinos PR machine. Pollies don't take any notice of wimpers ?

It is because of their sphere of influence (casinos) that we don't have national on line gaming & restrictions on live play. Only last year James Packer (son of deceased famous International high roller Kerry Packer) who has Melbournes Crown Casino & joints in Macau applied for a 2nd Sydney Casino licence. Even years earlier the lobby was against it & the final approval was watered down to high rollers only status, effectively freezing out the majority of us "poor peasant" players.

Comparing the casino now to how it was 5 - 6 years ago sees more RNG video roulette & less live dealer tables & the costs have jumped by them 1st flicking the $2.50 tables & now the $5 tables have become $10 & the only $5 table Euro wheel had a double zero slotted in down the bottom of the wheel between 5 Red & 10 Black. They keep the rest of the wheel as Euro. Complaining to a Pollie would only fall on deaf ears.

A visit to the casino these days is far less enjoyable than it used to be. Because of that I now mostly play on line.

@ausguy

Which casino is it that only allows high rollers please ? I guy can dream right  ;)

Thanking you in advance..... 8)

ddarko - It's not built yet, construction is only in the early stages. As I've already said it's being funded by James Packer, the son of deceased high roller Kerry packer, famous for playing all seven positions at the blackjack table (Vegas & elsewhere) at $250,000 per position & $1.75million per set. He lost $20 million in one sitting but had won multi millions at other times. Son James apparently is a non player ? I suppose owning a few casinos is a winner in itself ?

The development is call Barangaroo & not too far from the Sydney Harbour Bridge & the Opera House. It's an old wharf area so the development is a whole precinct with a high rise. Part of that high rise will have the High Roller floors. That was a Govt. approval condition as the current casino squealed real loud about not having a second competing casino. Too bad for us low rollers as Packers Melbourne Crown casino, I'm told by people who've played there, leaves Sydneys Casino way behind in player comfort & value (affordable live dealer tables).

There'd be plenty of detail about it on line.

The more that you bet, the more that you're excited.  It's always been a mystery to me that someone poor try to make the pension cheque "last" exactly the month over a bunch of cardboard and plastic props.

Gambling is a fun study for interested PhD's and curious George's; but not even really for the casinos or the multi-corporations and governments which own them.  Maybe other poor persons with the perverted, sadistic vent.

Of keeping these poor persons "in the ditch" the rest of their lives, and addicted to internet boards to talk about it "in glowing terms".  One in twenty sincerely seeks help, and one in twenty of them ever gets it for any stretch of time.

I hope so.
