Title: Whats with all the locked posts
Post by: rolf-harris on Dec 09, 02:19 PM 2012
There seems to be so many locked posts in every category you almost have to go to page 2 before you can find anything to reply to..
What's the point of it...Its annoying when you want to express your opinion on something and are unable to because it is locked.
I am expecting this post to be locked also after some short, sharp (smack on the wrist for bringing it up ) explanation from Steve.

Look, I am not out here to cause trouble but I just like to understand the workings of things.
So then I find myself asking..Moved...? where, why..
Nothing sinister, I assure you...but " like it or lump it " is no an answer.

OK...I'll leave it there Turner..( no first name. I feel like I am being rude calling you Turner )
Thanks for the explanation.
I think from now on I will just concentrate on the roulette and let the administrators administrate.
And oh, Turner, if your systems were any good....you would have been able to get a 10" or 12" telescope wouldn't you?
( only joking )
By the way, shame about the sad news of Patrick Moore we heard today.

I filled up Rolf....he was my hero. I remember watching sky at night when I was 15. He showed you how to find the plough. I went out the back and found it. I've studied Astronomy ever since...which is 35 years from that day.

I've put the telescope out the back to get down to temperature for an hour then I will look at Jupiter and Pleides in memory of him.

he was a big fan of Jupiter.

Funny story (well I think so)
I picked up a book from a charity shop of his from 1957 on star watching

he said..." I have no reason not to believe that man will have walked on the moon by 1986.

he didn't know everything then...LoL

Turner (Calling me Turner is just fine.....by the way)

Sir Patrick was a  specialist in the Moon wasn't he.
When I was 16 or so I embarked on building my own telescope...a 12" reflector. An open tube (skeletal sort of thing )
People gave me funny looks when I told them...thought I was crazy...
But I half ground the mirror before giving it up as a bad job and giving all the other parts away to a guy across the road.
( he most likely sold it on to the scrap-man,- but I was naive in those days)
But now, coming up to retirement , I've started eying up the catalogues from Meade etc with the idea of building a small observatory on the back garden.
Telescopes seem to be so much cheaper nowadays.
Two year to go till then......( sigh )

Rolf...I've studied it to death. Sykwatcher are the best optics for your cash (big bang for your buck, you could say lol). There are better but its meggabucks.

I've got a Sywatcher 8" Dob. Just looked at Jupiter in honour of the great man.

i could see the great spot and only 3 moons, all on the right...other must be behind Jupiter

God rest his soul

Turner, he deletes some posts. He has so much stuff he wants to sort it out i guess.
Leaving the essentials in his section.
That's why we got him his own section. Look, the guy is really productive and thinking and been working hard for many years. Now he came with the idea to gather some 60 methods he finds the  best so anyone can use them, he thinks that using different methods may help. I think he could be right about it, who knows. The same method fail, maybe different will work.

i think i already answered it. this nice guy Proofreader wants to create a collection of best methods to use all of them. With his old ideas spread around he lost control over them. Now he will have everything in the same spot and control over it.

Just having all simple and clear is not interesting is it? Having mysterious  moving threads with no existence and opportunity to participate in them will create some kind of ghost atmosphere here for u. U will look at Jupiter and maybe will think that all those threads moved right there.
Just kidding.

the only times I ever lock a thread is when it distracts everyone from what this forum is about: beating roulette. some threads are productive, some are not. as for moved posts, thats another matter. a lot of threads have been moved because of proofreader's new section, so the moving is temporary
