Title: No PMing?
Post by: MrJ on Oct 18, 01:02 PM 2015
If this was talked about, sorry, I'm not much of a reader (lol)

Thought about this today.......lets say we have a member that is not banned but kind of toes the line regarding, members PM him for more information. In other words, possible sales or a scam etc.

My suggestion, is there a way to cut off PM features? PMing out and PMing in to the person. The only one person he can PM to is Steve (and maybe mods?) but thats it, nobody else.

Perhaps have this "punishment" for a good 6 month period? If we AGAIN suspect BS, another 6 months is added. Its only an idea Steve but I think its a great one.

I seem to recall that new members can not PM until their post count is up to 6 in number,
so I guess that theoretically if the forum could reset a members membership to zero days old, then they would become a newly joined member.

Yeah but I dont care if the member has 300 posts. If the hinting of sales/scam leads to PMing him, block his PM's for six months. That should take care of the problem.

Personally, I don’t think PM’ing should be banned it’s up to the individual what they want to do, there are enough posters on the forum advising about scammers, and if individuals want to take the risk, it’s their call, it would probably be the type of individual that has already read/watched youtube about Martingale, tried that, lost, now looking for a more in-depth system, and for £50/$50 they can get that, which might work at the start, if you get fairly lucky at the start, and then it will tank...I’m guilty of doing both....sometimes you need to learn the hard way....

PMs can be restricted to individual users or any user with a minimum amount of posts. A lot of members use PMs, and sometimes it is abused by members with hundreds of posts. So there is no simple solution. Perhaps if members complain about another member spamming them, then the messages will be treated as if they were a forum post. ie no spamming, or bans result.

Yes it is up to the individual to use their brain to avoid being scammed, but if there is an obvious scam, it wont be allowed to continue. It is a rule that any selling takes place in the public part of the forum, not PMs. This is to help protect members by allowing people to criticize sellers, and ask constructive questions.
