Not everyone has the latest MS Office which creates files with an X in the extension (.docx etc)
I mention this because such files are starting to appear on the forum.
And not everyone wants to go out and buy the latest Office -- including me.
Soooo....I use the legally free TEXTMAKER VIEWER to read them.
Works well: link:://:.officeviewers.com/ (link:://:.officeviewers.com/)
Thanks for the tip. May prove useful for many :thumbsup:

Great Esoito :)
Thanks !!
Why not use openoffice, totally free, and it opens docx
OpenOffice is a huge program intended as an Office alternative for those that don't have Office.
But why switch if you already have a satisfactory version of Office? Might as well stick with Office, having paid for the thing!
"If it ain't broke then leave it alone" is a good rule to follow with PCs.
So a simple viewer is an easy, quick, costless and non-intrusive solution to viewing the "X-files". :thumbsup:
Everything has its space in this world :)
Or, the users with the current version of Office also have the option to save whatever file they are planning to post up in the format of the earlier version.
When they click on Save, several options are available.
Also, for those without the current version, Microsoft has a FREE upgrade to all of its product to be able to READ the new version of Office products. A simple Google search will bring up the appropriate links.
However, I have found that it is generally easier for the original poster to save the file in the older format to be more compatible with all of the regular users.

Good point.
I wonder how many users realise that!
