elected? Nope. just lineage
They have no power, and all their chances to have power, like when a new government is formed, the leader has to be appointed by the Queen, she could say no, but wont because its all tradition and pageantry.
to be honest I think they just have them for tradition reasons and because it does good to their tourism as attraction. They are nothing anymore than a shop window? I'm not form UK so I may be wrong but that's what it seems to the rest of the world at least :wink:
Queen Elizabeth is not only English queen, or even only UK or British queen. She is a queen of Canada, Australia and New Zealand too.
