Title: Anyone have a new Kindle?
Post by: Bayes on Dec 13, 03:49 AM 2010
The 3rd generation Kindle (e-book reader) is being heavily advertised on TV here in the run-up to Christmas. I've thought of buying one in the past but was put off by the relatively high price and lack of features. The new version is a lot cheaper and looks great, and the fact that you can load pdfs is nice, because I have a lot of books in pdf format but don't like reading from a computer screen. Anyone got one? what's your verdict?

I don't have one but I wouldn't get one myself.

Reading online, onscreen is quite taxing, I find.

So I wouldn't want more of the same for recreational reading.

Give me a proper book any day!

I suspect you're leaning that way...

Ditto, and it's the one thing that's always put me off buying one - I assumed that kindle (and other e-book readers) were a bit of a gimmick - why not just read from a netbook or laptop? But according to the blurb (link:://:.amazon.com/Kindle-Wireless-Reader-Wifi-Graphite/dp/B002Y27P3M), they've eliminated the factors which lead to eye strain.

People who see the display for the first time do a double take because the screen looks like real paper.

Kindle's electronic ink display is ideal for reading because it does not create the same eyestrain as reading on traditional backlit LCD tablets or laptops.
I would prefer to actually try one out before buying though.
