Title: LET'S ALL AGREE TO AVOID USING THE TERM "HOLY GRAIL" IN FUTURE...
Post by: esoito on Aug 08, 07:36 PM 2010
The reason is simple:  the term is grossly abused, mis-used and over-used, both here and elsewhere.

As a consequence, the term is now basically meaningless because it means different things to different people.

As a meaningful description it has been emasculated by scammers to the extent that genuine grail-claimants are no longer believed or trusted.

It's a contentious term that leads to a great deal of dissension and disagreement amongst forum members.

So I say let's all agree to avoid using the term altogether.

I agree. In roulette, the term basically means: "A system that never loses", giving its owner the 100% degree of certainty of coming a winner session after session... without ever knowing defeat. "He cannot lose, for he holds the holy grail of roulette."

Translated to real life: A FANTASY QUEST.

Don't get me wrong: there are decent methods that can win more than they lose (average) in somewhat "normal" numerical samples.

Let' say those systems know how to manage the gross of the "bell curve" of numerical occurrences, to accommodate to the most common samples, yet in infinity as every combination is theoretically realized, the system can be labelled a loser as every other method that just can't beat infinity (all possible events are always a "latent possibility" in such infinite scenario), but yet some people among those who fall into the gross of that bell curve in their experienced numerical samples, enjoy consistent earnings with such decent methods while alive.

Those systems do NOT qualify to be holy grails, but they are potential winners for the most of gamblers who will never in their lifetime experience the actual numerical extremes in their lived samples.

There's a difference! Those who offer such 100% guaranteed methods (holy grails) should have their claim reversed to offering a system with 0% possibility of losing and perhaps -only perhaps- people would have the needed shock for them to realize the impossibility of such "holy grail" claims.

...People is keen to accept a "holy grail" system with 100% certainty to win as something reasonable and believable (:o), but of course the same people would claim "nonsense", "scammer", etc. to anyone offering 0% possibility to lose (as it is blatantly obvious he simply can't offer that).

Well, mathematically speaking both statements are the same.

Life and its curiosities...

You say potato I say patato.
You say ketchup I say tomato sauce.

100% winning system.
0% risk.

0% loosing system.
100% gain.

Semantics.

Fun with words.

I have stated that 100 times before, I agree. Even other words like 'it works great', 'never loses' etc. It should all be avoided, IMO.  Ken

At the very least, we can make our forum's text parser suppress the term or automatically change it simply to "system", so every time someone types "holy grail", the forum displays "system" instead :)

I agree.

But I did post my System (for free) as MY Personal Holy Grail. Because it is. Ive yet to lose with it

But on the whole I think most ppl know NOTHING wins 100% 100% of the time

No ?

I still say (IMO) you should not call it a holy grail. There is no holy grail, never will be a holy grail. We have had debates in the past regarding that very definition. Where is your method posted, forget it, I'll find it. I'll make it lose. No way a person can walk into the casino week after week after week and constantly win, there's no way.  Ken

Question: should we set it in our RULES to avoid using the term "holy grail", so we have grounds to terminate with this "holy grail craze"?

Rules are going to be amended today and we can outlaw the term for good.

What do think?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!

Our forum's parser now censors the use of the phrase forum-wide

Some threads will look funny, but that's good; eventually people will simply use system natively.

Our pages are better-looking already without it.

I thought I was in agreement with this, but now it's too confusing.  When someone uses the word 'system', I can't tell if they meant "you know what" or really meant 'system'.  Even the subject heading for this topic has me confused.  I feel like I'm trying to keep from cursing  by substituting the word "flip" for the word f__K.  You know, "What the flip are you doing?"  Get's the point across, but loses some of the impact.  In the future, if I want to use the term "holi grale" I'll just mispell it.  Shouldn't confuse anyone since mispelled words are pretty common when posts are being made by people to which English is a 2nd, 3rd or 4th language.  Not complaining.  I tried to learn Bulgarian a while back and so I have nothing but the upmost respect for all you guys who are bi-lingual.

My two cents worth,

George

Should we reverse the text parser substitution it and instead amend the RULES to remove topics that abuse the term???

My original post was headed:

LET'S ALL AGREE TO AVOID USING THE TERM  H O L Y  G R A I L  IN FUTURE...

I didn't use the word 'system'.

Banning the word 'system' is a different issue altogether.

In fact, I think it's a daft idea to ban the word 'system' and that was NEVER my intention!!!

The thread has been hijacked with good intentions, but hijacked all the same!

Not happy...
