Title: Skype
Post by: ThomasGrant on Sep 05, 10:01 PM 2010
A few members have reported to me that they don't have Skype.
Don't know how to get it. And don't know how to use it.

Skype
link:://:.Skype.com (link:://:.Skype.com)

Skype Download link.
link:://:.Skype.com/intl/en/get-Skype/on-your-computer/windows/ (link:://:.Skype.com/intl/en/get-Skype/on-your-computer/windows/)

I do all my communication with Skype.
Skype is all I use.

I can share my screen with members.
And show them what I am doing.
Or they can show me their desktop so I can see what they are doing.
Full or partial screen sharing.

Instant messaging.
File sharing.

My Skype username is
Skype: thomasgrant
Or, jut type in thomasgrant into the add contacts.

Ohh, I forgot the most important part...

ITS FREE...

Good-o Thomas! :)

These days Skype is all I use too for instant messaging, except the in-mail GTalk page when checking out the inbox (web-based).

For those who want to do several there's always link:://imo.im

I was just answering another thread and this one showed up at the bottom of the page so I figured I'd tag on to it.

Just finished talking with a lot of old friends in Hong Kong and Taiwan.  Was on the phone for almost two hours using Skype.

Total cost?   Zero dollars.

It's still the best way to talk with people outside your native country.

And, as Thomas has already mentioned, if you'll take the time to update your profile, you can add your Skype name to your account here!

It could not be easier Ken. ;)
Try it.

This old school 50 year old had it done and chose my user-name all within 3minutes.
Plus like it says, its free to download, and free to use if going Skype-to-Skype.

Can also text from Ur computer to any mobile phone. (small costs involved tho)
If Ur that way inclined- and I text a lot, so I am that way inclined.

How about if I tell you I can talk with my girlfriend from Hong Kong a lot.

Would that make a difference?

The good thing is...
You don't even need a microphone.
Or a camera.
However...
Screen sharing can crash Skype.
Especially when you share your entire screen.
As it chews up heap of ram.
Best to share small portions of your screen.

I do screen sharing with many people.
Especially when they are having problems.

The bad news is that here in Canada, i would have to port to a US phone number.  (Or pay a separate company a few extra bucks a month to have my own number ported.)

Also, i don't see the point in wasting a lot of time because something is, on the face of it anyway, free.  (If i ate all the free food coming to me... i'd be fat, bored, sick, and lazy by now.)

Hmm, as I am loathe to do this, I'll answer it for the rest of the readers.

Why would you need a Canadian number for anything?

Skype is VOIP, not a land based phone system.

Yes, you can get a phone number, but that's an OPTION and not required at all.

I used to have a local phone number for Skype but it was Hong Kong based as that's where most of the calls were originating from when I was on the road.   I would be in the hotel and they would just call my local number and wherever I was IN THE WORLD, I could answer it!  Obviously I didn't need a US phone number.

For those of you who have read this far, Skype to Skype calling is a very good deal.  It's free, it works amazingly well (and has been so for the several YEARS I've been using it) and if you have a need to contact your computer friends around the world or have a multiple player chat running while playing online casino games, this is a very good program to use.

You know, I was thinking of saying something similar.
Here I am in Australia...
I talk to people from Ireland.
Peru.
South Africa
Poland
Russia
The United States of America.
And many more places...
All for free.
Did not cost me a cent.
Skype is all I use.
It is an excellent tool.
I show people how to use software.
How to solve problems.
I have no numbers that I have ever used or called.

Cheer up AD, wasn't asking you or anyone else a question.

Obviously, I have considered all my OPTIONS here asfaras a complete communications-package for my residence... and ruled out Skype for the above reason.  Of which I will be quite happy to not try to fully explain to you, especially given the tone of your response above; and "attitude" problem in general regarding myself on these boards.
