Title: Some IT advice
Post by: Turner on Apr 14, 06:51 AM 2013
I have messed with computers and programming since computers were very basic. BBC/Spectrum/Commadore 64

I actually work in IT, but have a great experience messing with them personally.

Here is a good tip.

Having recently been hit by a virus, i realised the immense power of the restore point.

Windows 7 and 8 have an excellent restore point system.

The resore point completly cured my laptop.

MY TIP.

Download MalwareBytes. its free. There are better, but they arnt free.
Run a full virus check, in fact, run as many virus checks as possible.

Deem your PC/laptop to be virus free.

Go to System restore and delete every restore point you have.

Now save the current set up as a restore point. Call it Virus free- (current date)

NOTE: I restored to one of the many restore points and it still had the virus?!? Lucky for me, one didnt

Clean them out.

it is preventative maintenance

You will be so glad you did one day!

Security systems need daily updates. I use one which I pay  60 Euro a year.  Viruses mutate at high rate and if it is possible it is worth to pay for a program like F-Secure or similar.
Resetting to the restore point can mean you lose some data.

It can, but i was a a stage where i couldnt actually get on the internet. My wireless IE/Firefox and chrome was shot.

All data is backed to a disk

I was speaking to the "non-PC literate"

its something they can do with little knowledge

On this occasion, it saved my Arse. I actually had the windows 7 disk in my hand ready to flatten it.

I would not use Windows if not my clients want me to work for them using it. I would have MAC.

thanks Turner

another advice get yourself registry cleaner. and clean your registry regularly. One comes from the same site as malware.

there are 2 good free antiviruses. AVG and ANTIVIR (AVIRA).

also it makes sense to download and install a free firewall. i know two. Alarm zone and Commodo.
with Commodo u may have an issue to open dublinbetcasino.
help is here

another IT advice i gave long time ago -- you can find it in "testing" i think.
how to create a hotkey  for clicking the mouse with your keyboard button press.
i don't click it much anymore since i found it. it's important when u use RX a lot, your point finger is gonna be very tired and sore if u don't.

My first Mac a plus with 1 meg RAM and a harddisk of 20 megabytes and an Apple Laserwriter cost at the time SEK  70000:-
Which is about in toady's money  350 000:- or about  53000 dollars.(1985).

I made a good income using it, any 286 was crap and not much cheaper. Promt driven DOS.

I use AVAST anti-virus and after using the other 2 you mention, I find this every bit as good...if not  better.

I buy a gaming computer for 1,5K and would never run it with out a good firewall and anti-virus software.
It has windows 8 and is for my daughter.

But with my linux computer i don't worry much, run linux computers for many years.
Have never had any intrusion or virus.

Linux is too much headache for an average user. I wouldn't go for it, too much time to spend on it.

I second this one dear Ego. I'm yet to have virus-related issues on Linux.

Not quite dear Iggiv, in my experience the lesser things the "average user" must perform with his PC, the more suitable Linux is. (i.e. just browsing, checking email, basic word processing and/or image editing; there's a linux alternative for such sort of basic tasks).

It is the more specialized user who has a harder time finding a particular software to cover his/her needs. Usually the first operating system covered when releasing a commercial software is windows, so it is no surprise the more software present.

With some virtualization solutions such as VirtualBox you can run a copy of windows seamlessly inside Linux.

Regards.

LoL, I'm as busy as always. Hope to make some more participation. This year I have my eyes placed on creating programming languages and other non-gambling activities, precisely IT-related.

It's nice to be around.

Part of my job is to analise who comes on the web with what. By far.....in the last years the 85% of Widows users  (1.6% still IE6!)  is being eat away by android and iPhone
