Title: Everything's a flat bet!
Post by: GLC on Dec 25, 11:15 AM 2010
Nightmare time.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even the mouse.
I had finished my tea and was heading for bed
With numbers and colors spinning in my head.
I snuggled in bed and soon began to dream
But awake I came with a blood chilling scream.
You'll never believe what caused me to fret.
Old man roulette said everything's a FLAT BET!!! :o :'( :-\ ??? :o
Screeeeeeeeeech!!!!! :o

All right, let's think about this.

The roulette wheel doen't know when we place a bet on a location, what has happened before or what will happen after that bet.

All it knows is that I just placed a $5 bet on the number 12.  Or I just place a $50 bet on Red.

I the course of a life time of playing roulette, every bet is independent. :-\

As an example, if you are playing say a 10 step martingale on Red, every 1 unit you bet is separate from every 2 unit bet or every 4 unit bet etc...  At the end of ten years of play you have created a pool of 1 unit bets on Red, 2 unit bets on Red, 4 unit bets on red, etc...

What you are doing is playing 10 groups of bets.  A group of 1 unit bets, a group of 2 unit bets, a group of 4 unit bets, etc...  When you make a bet in a group doesn't matter.  It could be just random bets.  I could bet in this order: 4-32-1-128-4-8- etc...  The table doesn't know whether I'm betting in an ascending series or a descending series or just willy nilly.

At the end of 10 years my profit or loss will be based on how I did in my 1 unit group plus how I did in my 2 unit group plus how I did in my 4 unit group plus etc...

Any thoughts on this?

George

I suppose it depends how much patience you have.
You could sit at the wheel for 8-10 hours and flat bet in which time the house edge is constantly grinding away at you. (not to mention tiredness, lack of food etc...) OR
you could give it a gentle nudge now and then when you are in the middle of a bit of positive variance. This will sometimes allow you the opportunity to get out with a profit early.
Like everything, a good balance is required. On the one hand, I would never suggest a martingale or anything crazy like that but a lot of wins and losses do come and go in small clumps. It would be unwise not to maximize your opportunities when they arise. Of course there will be times when you have a great session and always remain in front. No tweaking is needed in these situations. However, let's assume you include some virtual betting in your gameplan and you notice that you have had about 25 losers in the last 30 spins of which you were hopefully only on the first few. Now it swings around and you have had a few wins, would it not be prudent just to dip your toe in the water just a little and see if you can't ride a possible win streak. It could be the difference between getting out in another half dozen spins or so OR sitting there another hour or two to grind it all back.
Food for thought anyhow.
