I just saw the news about the quake in Christchurch New Zealand.

Just wondered if any of our members/fellows are affected by it in anyway?

If so, we are thinking of U buddies.

Yes it is terrible. I live in New Zealand...My Sister lives in Christchurch but luckily escaped unharmed. She lives and works on the outer skirts. She was home at the time it hit and dived under the kitchen table. This is the 2nd major earthquake to hit Christchurch within the last 6 months. Except this time  there are casualties. My prayers go out to all concerned and may there loved ones come home safe.

Yes, sorry I didnt reply to this earlier. I dont normally look down this part of the Forum - bad!

The news got worse day by day in many ways, and that I had been walking around the city just a couple of days before it was hit, made it all that more poignant. By 'chance' I flew north on other matters.

Many of my friends have experienced near misses, and one has lost a daughter. It is shocking. In a city that size and in a nation like NZ the degrees of separation are so close. Two degrees most say.

Belatedly, I have noted some very worthwhile organisations who are taking donations, including the NZ Govt itself. The cost of this E/Q has been early estimated at up to $15 Billion NZD and infrastructure in this city is not insured - ie all the services under and above ground.

To those who have posted on this thread my sincere and best wishes.
