This method is based on D'Alembert which, for all newbies, is +1 on a loss and -1 on a win.  The strength behind D'Alembert is that with a balanced win/loss ratio, we keep winning a unit every time we get a win to offset a corresponding loss.  So if I bet 4 units and lose, my next bet is 5 units.  If I win, I'm +1 for that duo.  The dilemma is that we lose more bets than we win and this causes our bet size to creep upward (sometimes shoot upward) until we're in the stratosphere.

There have been various ideas employed to counterbalance what is sometimes referred to as "drift".  One is called half peak.  This is where you calculate half the size of your largest bet and if you win back down to that point, you take the loss and reset back to 1.  There's nothing sacred about "half" it could be 75% or 30% or whatever.

Others have suggested to drop back 1 step on a win and drop back 2 more steps if you happen to win 2 times in a row.  This is better, in my mind, than the original, but can still be overwhelmed by a really bad loss to win ratio.  Just for the record, every method can be overwhelmed by a really bad loss to win ratio.  Even the one I'm getting ready to propose.  Which is:

We play +1,-1 until we are betting 6 or more units.  At 6 or more units we continue to increase by 1 after each loss but once we get a win we drop back 2 steps.  If we get another win, that's 2 wins in a row, we drop back 2 more steps.  Now if we continue to drop back 2 steps after each win, we will never be able to pull ahead of our losses unless we have a super run of wins so I propose that after we have dropped back 4 steps, we flat bet at that level until we lose at which time we increase 1 unit for our next bet.

Example:

bet 1 unit and lose   -1
bet 2 units and lose  -3
bet 3 units and lose  -6
bet 4 units and win  -2
bet 3 units and lose  -5
bet 4 units and lose  -9
bet 5 units and lose  -14
bet 6 units and lose  -20
bet 7 units and win  -13
bet 5 units and win  -8
bet 3 units and win  -5
bet 3 units and win  -2
bet 3 units and lose  -5
bet 4 units and lose  -9
bet 5 units and lose  -14
bet 6 units and win  -8
bet 4 units and win  -4
bet 2 units and win -2
bet 2 units and win  0
bet 1 unit and win  +1
etc...

What we're trying to do is drop back more than normal after  one or two wins to help off-set "drift" but we can't continue this or we'll nullify our ability to take advantage of the vibration effect that makes D'Alembert work.

Just another little twist on a betting pattern that takes advantage of a few more win/loss patterns than straight D'Alembert.  Of course there are still patterns that will rip our heart out and shove it in our face just before we take our dying breath.  So, don't get too excited.  This is just a small life jacket to help you stay afloat a little longer if you find yourself 2 or 3 hundred miles out in the Atlantic with a hurricane  barreling down on you and sharks swimming all around.

Enjoy,

P.S.  Forgive my sick sense of humor.  Sometimes I just can't control it!

I was playing around this past weekend with a different D'Alembert myself which I wasn't going to post just yet, as I haven't tested it sufficiently, but your post got me thinking about it again.  If we play on an E/C, we wait for a double before moving up or down.  BRBRB does nothing but hold us until we get a BB or RR and then +1 or -1 based on what our choice on bets was.  Because there are considerably fewer doublets, there should be less chance of a really bad streak getting the bets up too high.  It keeps it much more manageable and still returns the benefits of the D'Alembert (actually +2 instead of +1 when you get your wins, although they come less frequently too).  In my little bit of testing Sunday, it seemed to stay very manageable and fairly profitable.  I'm going to continue looking at it as a solid variation until the bankroll tells me otherwise.

Nice touch Colbster.

We could actually incorporate our ideas into the same bet method.  When we get a double loss using your method, we would increase by 1 unit and when we get a double win, we can decrease by 1 unit until we get down -5 or -6 units and then we can decrease by 2 units if we get 2 wins and by 2 more units if we get another 2 wins in a row. We would then stay at that bet amount until we have a double loss at which time we start increasing our bet size again.

Maybe we don't want to give random too much of a run for its money. :o

I was getting online to make this post when I read Colbster's post and had to respond to it.  Here's what I was going to post.

Here's the bet line: 1-2-2-2-3   6-9-14-20    25-30-35-40    50-60-70-80    95-110-125-140   etc...

We bet 1 unit as long as we win.

On our first loss, we immediately go to 2 units.

If we win this 2 unit bet we are +1, reset.

If we lose this 2 unit bet we make the 2nd 2 unit bet.

If we win the 2nd 2 unit bet or the 3rd 2 unit bet or the 3 unit bet, we let-it-ride.  If we win both, we will be at a new high  bank and can reset to 1 unit.

If we get to the 6-9-14-20 section, we must either lose the 1st bet which moves us to the next bet or if we win, we must bet the same amount and win again.  So, a double win.  It's not a let-it-ride, it's a double win at the same amount.  A double win here will also bring us to a new high bank and a reset to +1.  The advantage of this double win is if we win the 1st bet and lose the 2nd attempt, we are even for the 2 bets and can make another attempt at it.

If we lose the 20 unit bet, we move to the method presented in my 1st post of this topic.  We move 1 step to the right on a loss and we move 2 steps to the left on a win and another 2 steps to the left on a 2nd win in a row.  After 2 wins in a row, we stop moving to the left and continue to flat bet until we reach a new high bank or we have a loss.  On a loss, we just begin to move 1 step to the right.

From the 25 unit bet and upwards, we will be playing my +1 on a loss, -2 and -2 on a double win then flat until we reach a new high bank.

If we drop back into the 6-9-14-20 section or the 1-2-2-2-3 section we do not treat them like we do on our way up.  They're just like any other bet.

Many of you will recognize "the Star" bet method in this bet progression.  It's one of my top 10 betting ideas.

I suggest that you don't use this progression.  It's too volatile!
