Hi there, I'm a complete newbie to the world of roulette and not sure if ive just been tricked out of my money or if I made a mistake. Could use your advise

Basically just started playing and noticed some players just plopping money on the table and calling a colour or number etc. I tried this today but thought id ask the dealer if it was ok to do so. He said yes So i immediately said £100 on red. i began putting my money on the table, had £150 in my hand but only £80 on the table when the ball had just started skipping. It hadn't landed anywhere and the dealer hadnt called no more bets, nor did he say he couldn't accept my bet. He called the pit manager who then said video showed he called no more bets, so i asked to see the video. He hadn't, the guy argued he had around 3 times before i made him rewatch it twice. Once we'd established he hadn't he said I asked for colours, i reiterated that i had clearly said on red. again he didn't accept it, until i proved otherwise. Finally he said the bet didn't count because i only had £80 on the table. I've read and apparantly that last bit is correct, but im unclear as some sites say if the dealer accepted the bet it counts. Thanks for any help guys!

Hello,

If the minimum bet for red was £100.....then I suppose they are entitled to return the £80 and say it's a no bet, however surely they could have used a bit of discretion seeing as how you are new to the game.

I would write a letter of complaint to the general manager and you might get some kind of comp with a bit of luck.

Hard lines....it kind of puts you off the game when something like that happens. What group of casinos was it if you don't mind me asking?

cheers

If you are new to the game and throwing down 100 pound notes, you might want to talk to some of the more experienced players on these forums.

The minimum bet for red was £10, I have got the contact details for some betting complaints agency but wondered if it was worth me pursuing this. Like you said it does put you off a little, and it was certainly intimidating having this guy lie to my face blatantly as we both watched the same clip of me! It was Genting Casino, If I'm not allowed to name Casinos please remove this post. I don't wish to badmouth the casino, just wondered about the rules! Thanks for your response uglybob

I Wish it was a £100 note, he would have accepted the bet then! Thanks for the response Samster

pavniku - Welcome to the forum. Your talking about pounds in your hand? As you can only exchange your cash money for game chips for table betting I assume you mean you had cash chips in pounds values in your hand ? I'll be saying quids here as my keyboard in OZ only has the $$$ symbol.

The main mistake you made with your 80 quid bet (non bet) was that you left it to the LAST FEW SECONDS to TELL the dealer to place your 100 quid bet on RED for you but then you put 80 quid down when you actually wanted to bet 100 = 20 quid short ? What was needed was for you to place your bet chips on the table & then say to the dealer "RED PLEASE." You did it "ARZZABOUT". The dealer can only react to chips put down, then you direct the placement. Remember they are doing this thousands of times each week.

I assume you didn't lose your money on that spin & your bet money was still sitting on the table or was back in your pocket ? You were Peed off because you just missed winning as RED dropped & an easy 100 or 80 quid profit evaporated ?

As RED is centre outside on the the layout I don't see why you couldn't have placed the bet yourself ? What was the bet minimum on RED ?

You say that the ball "started skipping) which means that it's hitting the diamonds & running/bouncing within the wheel & only seconds away from dropping into a number pocket. All dealers do call or should call no more bets when the ball is about to leave the ball track circle. Not only do they say "NO MORE BETS" (NMB) but cross wave their arms/hands over the bet layout & even throw off any late bet chips. If this dealer didn't do that on that particular spin it may have been due to him/her being new at the job &/or just caught out by you bustling him/her at the critical NMB stage ? The dealer isn't liable for incorrectly placed bets, it is the players reponsiblity to make sure that the bet(s) is/are correct.

The pit boss isn't going to get agro with you as they are trained to "tame the player beast", in this case you, as the casino wants your money. He was very patient with you showing you the replay 3 times. He got you on a technicality of you making an invalid bet by saying 100 on RED but only offering up 80. With so many video check decision being made hourly the Pit Bosses decision is always final. Exactly the same as a football refs call. Sometimes they may give you a benefit of the doubt payout sensing that you may be a newbie & highly likely to eventually "donate" all your chips to the casino ?

The bottom line with this is that it is your responsibility to see that your bet is placed in time & is the correct value & in the correct position (not across or touching a line), ie before the ball drops (no more bets called/waved). If the ball is "skipping" it's well past the NMB stage. If anyone puts bets down at that point they would be rejected for sure, any dealer would see to that, even the one at your table.

I've had arguments with bit bosses where I've placed bets in plenty of time & had bets moved by careless other players. The table being somewhat crowded often has shortarzz players that have loose coats or bangles hanging down that drags your chip(s) elsewhere. With so many arms reaching out you can't see your chips until it's too late as no more bets has been called. Often you find your chips in an invalid position dragged from an odd bet to 1/2 & 1/2 across RED/BLACK or whatever.

The argument then cranks up as even though the video shows my bet correctly placed & then later moved by a players hanging  gold wrist chain they refuse to pay out on the original odd placement but return the chips from the invalid position. If the chips are in another valid position & that's a loss then they take your chips = BAD LUCK. The advice is always the same, "No matter who moves your chips it's always your responsibility to make sure your bet is correctly placed". Sometimes you feel like smashing the pit boss in the face for being such a smug A****OLE.

For your betting place them earlier rather than later. Preplan your visit. If learning/feeling your way go in offpeak quieter times as it's usually less crowded & more relaxed. Peak/busy periods are crowded & people are noisey & a hassle. More people = slower spin cycles, less poeople = faster spin cycles = potentially more wins per hour ?  Have a bet method that you've tested. Have an adequte BR (bank roll). At least to cover your progression. Too much is better than not enough.
A bet sheet or card can be good to have to help maintain you bet plan. MM money management is must also.

Plenty of all the above on these forums. Do your homework, develop play confidence & discipline. Stick to your game plan & don't be influenced by what other players do, such as them plopping their money (chips?) on the table for the dealer to place some bets & so do you ?

Any casino is a tough nut to crack, to give yourself a fighting chance to win you at least need to be organised & be prepared to do some home work. Expecting to fast track play usually doesn't work. Roulette needs value study & that takes time.

Hi! Thanks for the detailed response, This clears up a lot. I didn't have the chips, just cash notes. That's why I had asked the dealer initially if I could use them, but I do understand that maybe my questioning threw him off the usual procedure. Thanks for your input it helps a lot!
