NON VOTERS allow people to get the government they don't deserve. Voting in OZ is compulsory & you get fined if you don't front up to vote. There's nothing to stop anyone from making an invalid non vote though. I would always vote even if it was optional.

The worst case is the USA when Obama got back again in 2012. With around 241 million eligible voters a massive 42.5% didn't vote (official stats), that's 102.4 million people too lethargic to get off their fat a.r.s.e.s. & get to a polling booth once every 4 years. They're free to do that but they're not free to gamble off shore on line ?

Look what they've got. Congress at stalemate over debt which sees the country going down the gurgler. Oh ! Only $17 TRILLION in DEBT, ONLY 40 million on food stamps, ONLY 10 million + living in tents, Detroit gone bankrupt, still self appointed global policeman.

Being in Australia doesn't mean I don't know/see what's going on in the World as the crisis in the Ukraine is only now hitting the mainstream news here.

N T H - Yep your right about the pollies. It's no different in OZ where last year our Prime Minister [PM] (= President etc.) got a $146,000 pay rise. The base salary now exceeds Obama's $400,000 @ $507,000. 3 months later after July 2013 = Sept 2013, due to inflation, the poor bugger got another $15k. Later this month it'll be same again (1/2 year review). On top of that is their allowances the PM got $647,000 in expenses + unlimited air travel anywhere + an open ended spend A/C. Fair go the pollies say, we've got to put food on the table too.

Once booted out the poor old ex pollie has to survive on a lifetime pension of over $5 grand per week (indexed for increases due to inflation). Only has 4 Govt. paid staff for his free office & expenses & a chauffeur driven luxury Govt. supplied car. A gold pass airline ticket for unlimited 1st class travel within OZ & 4 1st class trips O/seas per year for 2 (wife/lover etc.).

Compared to normal pensions, where extra income reduces your payout, pollies can collect theirs & get another job on top. Most do as ADVISERS to big business, directors etc. It's not unusual to read about an ex pollie getting $ 1/2 mill. P.A. on top of their pension.

The latest plan from these rorters is to increase the retirement age to 70 but doing nothing about age employment discrimination for people over 50.

All will be sweet for the privileged ones as they cruise along in the back of their tinted window big shiny Govt.(tax payer) car.

I thought WW3 would start in 2008 with the war in South Ossetia.

Maybe it will start now with the situation in Ukraine.

Whenever it comes, it will be manipulated by the international bankers ( banksters ) for their own profit.

Hopefully one day people will unite and realize that the real enemy is the bankers and their supporters like religious leaders, politicians, judiciary,  etc. Then then people can take action to eliminate those parasites.

IMO, only when that day comes will we have something that resembles true freedom.

S B - Sth Ossetia & Ukraine are 2 different animals, simply because of the population base.

Wikipedia shows Sth. Ossetia with a comparitively small 70,000 population. There's no way a major world power country would have started WW3 over what they would have regarded as a minor country. As it turned out an uneasy truce was made & so the conflict eventually ended.

The Ukraine's population is around 45.5 million & this has the potential to blow out to something very serious if the opposition to Russia has the fire power to take them on ?

It seems that the Russians want their Crimean base at all costs. That's their main Western sailing access to anywhere & everywhere. No doubt they have plenty of nuclear missisles there & other heavy fire power to fight any war.

Perhaps it's better they control it rather than a large force of angry opposition soldiers & reservists ?

The thing we don't want is hot heads getting access to the NUKE missiles & hitting the launch buttons for Moscow & other targets in & beyond Russia.

France & UK has Nukes as well & we all know what the USA has. It's almost too big to contemplate XYZ more nukes than WW2/USA had on Japan.

My point was that WW3 will start sooner or later, and who will be the puppet master behind the curtain.

Nuclear weapons would only speed up the end for everyone because we are all being nuked daily ( remember fukushima ).
It is only a matter of time.

S B - Not everyone is being nuked every day. Southern Hemisphere is pretty safe, the further South the better so OZ looks OK.

More than sad for the Northerm Hemisphere that has the majority of the Worlds population.

Fukishima is tragic but also let's not forget Chernobyl, almost right in the backyard of the Ukraine hot spot. I was only reading about Chernobyl the other day & how the area is stuffed for at least 20,000 years. Many animals died all over Central & Western Europe, up around Norway UK & Ireland & beyond.

It's not known how many people have died & still dying well before their time, it could be in the millions ?

Australia had doses of radiation too in the 1950's when the Poms were out here doing as they please in our arid regions testing lots of nuclear bombs. A TV program did a damning investigation about it all a number of years ago (Freedom of info.block lifted). It centred on an electronic repair guy in Brisbane ( maybe 2,500 km from the test zone on the Sub tropical East coast) who did work for mining companies including Geiger Counters GC (uranium exploration).

He'd finished a GC repair & had left the machine turned on, being the rainy season the steady rain turned into a heavy deluge. The guy heard the GC starting to buzz/click like they do, he thought that's strange & what's wrong with the machine & picked it up walking closer to the window as he checked it. The GC buzz got louder & then quieter as he moved to the centre of the room. He went back to the window & discovered that the rain was radioactive.

He alerted the authorities to eventually get a visit from a group of plain clothes Fed officers who confiscated every bit of his equipment with a warning if he caused trouble for them they would easily discredit him as they had all the evidence. How many people died early from cancer is not known ?

Also both Fukishima & Chernobyl both have a disaster rating of 7 out of 10 but Chernobyl released (& is still releasing some) more radiation than Fukshima because of less containment with the open/damaged roof.

As to South Ossetia you may well disagree but history shows that the conflict did end & WW3 was never on the horizon, only hints of it. Perhaps supporting your opinions with some facts would be of value to this debate ?

The USA or any other nuclear armed nation would never start a conflict that could kill 10's of millions of people "just" to try & save 70,000.
As to the Ukraine, Obama is threatening sanctions not military intervention & this is far more serious than Sth. Ossetia.

There's been a lot more severe situations than Sth. Ossetia, like the 1960's & the Cuban missile crisis with the USSR backing down under a USA ultimatum. The Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq & Saddam Hussein where the USA & Allies had 200,000 troops fighting there. All that & still no Nukes used in anger or mass invasions of millions of troops because for the USA & Russia it's a MEXICAN STANDOFF on steroids, as my guns are as big as yours..

Who were demonstrants in Kyiw for last 4 months?....unswer;PAID;Bulgarians,Romanians,Belorus,Polish,Serbs
and only about 20% real Ukraians.
Why ex.president Janukovich escaped?....if he didn't that night he would be late now.
What happened after.........so called demonstrant robed Russian ppl.living in Kyiw,throwing em out from their
flats and houses,and by today more then 750.000 Russian ppl.escaped to Russia to save their lives.
How do I know all this and more.
I am watching 4 Ukranian tv chanels,4 Russian chanels on 8 diff.televisions/as in each of my guest apartments there is a tv.and no guests here now/furthermore have,relatives,via wife side there,and know

teo - As you previously answered, there's nothing you can do about the conflict there. So there's no easy solution to a complex problem.

Safety for you, your wife, family & relatives is number 1. If death is a risk then you don't have much choice but to find a safe haven for the family group.

If things don't get better & they don't look like they will for a long time. Then basics like food & electricity may stop & what then ? Starve to death ?

Russia & Eastern Europe has a long history of conflict & displaced people. If you don't change your location then nothing will change.

Watching 8 TV channels, grinding your teeth & punching the table doesn't get you anywhere. I suggest you turn the sets OFF, calm down & put all your energies into helping as many of the family that want to get out to actually do it.

SBS (ethnic) television here in OZ is showing plenty, probably some of the same video you have watched on TV over there ?
