ADS IN THE FORUM

Hello dear friends,

I have been suggested to try to put ads (advertisements) in our forum's pages to collect some money and to relief donors.

It is OK to try some background ads, even as they aren't as high-paying as the "in your face" ones, but the latter are plain annoying and we won't try them again.

The least-annoying and less-intrusive form of ads seem to be adding some extra related text links on the page, and that is what I'm vouching to set. Our website is currently submitted for review by a text-links agency and it is only a matter of getting the green light to insert the code.

Remember it may be a couple months until the money actually passes, so if you can donate in the mean time by all means do.

I hope this move provides benefits. I know the realities of online ads, and the fact they are measured in cents and fractions of cents (and require large volumes) but I do agree that any help the forum can have is for the greater good, and the less intrusive they are, the better.

Good luck!

We all know the forum costs and somehow it must generate hosting fees.

I don't think anyone is going to be unreasonable and resent discreet, extra text-links on a page.

The code is integrated. Now it is only a matter of time to see the text-links inserted.

Let's hope for the best

Good to see U back at the desk Boss.

And great that U have seen the light on the Text Link ad placements.

Are U drawing up a set of rules for their placement and who can/who can't use/place them?

For instance, can members advertise here?

And if they can.......how do they go about it?

I myself could no problem with having side panel ads (as I mentioned to U guys months ago), which woulds use the currently unoccupied space each side of the forum pages, to feature- major adverts. The real big hitters.

Then, since most ppl do not like them, the membership would have a default switch set on the account profile section, where members could switch the panel adverts off, for the princely sum of a Dollar or two, and then be able to carry on their forum usage for the whole month, without fear of Contraception, or Coitus interrupti when surfing this fine establishment.

It could be a much better money hunter-gatherer than the cents/half-cents U will get from the links.

Just have a think Victor.

This way, the member is in control, and pays a little to stop the ads.

U could make a really good sliding bonus-for -paying-upfront payment scheme, whereby a member can pay 6months fees (non-ads fee) and get a discount.

Take the total membership now, add 5% for growth, and divide that figure by the years  or half year hosting fee.

That would be Ur base line cost per member to switch off the advert panel, and enjoy ad-free forum.

Everyone would be required to 'sign-up' to this, and then at least U know the costs are being covered by the members themselves, instead Of U, or even worse, U having, (even when Ur on medical leave) to remind ppl of the donations required again and again.

Just a though Charlie.

There is absolutely no harm in putting advertisements. I suggested it way back and welcome this step.
