Progression bets are nothing more than different size bets on different spins. You could get lucky and win big, or unlucky and lose even more.

Here's a line system from my notes that is from before I got my legs and started posting on the forum.

Track for 12 spins.  Use marquee if available.
Bet on the Line that didn't hit or hit least number of times.  If more than one line, pick one.
Bet this line until a hit or 6 spins with no hit.
If a hit within 6 spins, reset with new line at 1 unit.
If no hit in 6 spins, find another line that didn't hit or the least hit in the last 12 spins.  Add +1 to the 1st line and bet the 2nd line at that same amount.  In our example, we would bet 2 units on both of the lines until a hit or 6 more spins.
If one of the lines hits within the 6 spins and not new profit, stop betting on it but finish betting on the other line at the same unit amount until it hits and you have a new profit or you finish the 6 spins.
If it doesn't hit within the 6 spins, add 1 unit to it and also add another line that has hit the least or not hit in the last 12 spins.  Bet it at the same number of units as the other line.
Continue in this way until you reach a new profit or you are betting on 4 of the lines. Four lines is the most we will bet on.
Whenever you have a hit, drop that line and continue to end of the 6 spin cycle.
When you reach 6 spins and haven't reached a new profit and are still betting on lines, add 1 unit to all lines and add another line to make 4 if necessary.
If you're betting on 4 lines when you end the 6 spins, just add 1 unit to all 4 lines for the next 6 spin cycle.
We only reset to 1 unit on 1 line when we reach a new profit overall or all the lines being bet are hit within a 6 spin cycle.
We won't always be at a new high profit when we hit all lines being bet and have to reset at 1 unit on 1 line.
We can use a progression by starting at 1 line bet at 2 units instead of 1 unit if we're in the hole after all lines being bet hit within the last 6 spin cycle and we're in the hole more than 12 units.
Option:  We can bet all the way to 5 lines if you want to play a little more aggressively.
Test first before playing for real money.

In my case it doesn't matter.  I'm both!

Is not betting for the most "hot" lines a better option? cold lines/numbers can sleep forever...?

True enough, but we never know if a hot line is going to go cold right when we decide to bet on it.  Fact is, both hot and cold lines can have equally long losing streaks.

But, your comment introduces my next option.

Option 2:  If your farthest back choice doesn't hit within the 6 spin cycle, the next line you choose will be the hottest line out of the last 3 lines to hit.  This means we look at the last 3 lines to hit and we pick the one that has the most hits in the last 12 spins.

So, we add a farthest back and then a hot line, then a cold line, then a hot line, etc...

Any time a line wins, and the next time we end a 6 spin cycle if we are still in the hole, we will add a line of the same kind.  So, if the line that won was a hot line, the line we add will be a hot line.

If 2 lines hit in the 6 spin cycle and we're still down, we add a line of the group of the last line to hit.  That is, if a farthest hit and then a hot line hits and we end the 6 spin cycle still down, we add a hot line since that was the group that hit last.

This puts us on the streaking group.

It's not perfect, but it's very good.

Suggestions are welcome.

Remember, I dug this up in notes I took back in 2009.  I have tested it and it is a keeper for sure.  I tested it back in 2009, but didn't realize how strong it was because I hadn't tested that many systems.

I suggest a minimum stop-loss of 10 times your win target but not less than 200 units.

Expect to lose a 200 unit buy-in every now and then, so for safety you should have at least one 200 unit back-up bank and preferably two 200 unit back-up banks.

As always test thoroughly before risking your hard earned money on any system.

Im a big believer in chasing possible sleepers shortly like for 2-3 spins when you deem it the right thing to do....if no hit reset for next time and repeat the foolishness......I think of it as playing vertically and horizontally at the same time----

You should only play does line that has a show.
Then you know some of them will fall into sleep again and some will repeat.

Conclusion is that you know that some of does lines that has a show will show again.

Now you can not say the same thing about lines that never show.
They will show or sleep, you never know.
Denial of gamblers fallacy is usually seen in people who has Roulette as last option for a way to wealth, debt covering and a independent lifestyle.  Next step is pretty ugly-
AP - It's not that it can't be done, but rather people don't really have a clue as to the level of fanaticism and outright obsession that it takes to be successful, let alone get to the level where you can take money out of the casinos on a regular basis. Out of 1,000 people that earnestly try, maybe only one will make it.
