Forum feature suggestion - Steve?

Steve I was going to send you a pm about this but was interested to get some feedback from members on the idea so thought I'd post it here.

There are several programmers on this forum, including me, and although I enjoy coding I don't have the time, or to be honest, the inclination, to code up every system every member asks me to in a pm.

So the problem is although there is a demand for coding, those who want systems tested don't want to pay for it and the programmers don't want to do it for nothing, so my suggestion for a possible compromise is this:

We have a coding section where any member can nominate or suggest a system to be coded. Any member who wants to have this done for the system will then pledge a small sum (say $1 minimum). When the amount pledged reaches a certain figure (say $50) either I or another programmer who wants to do the job will write the code and the software will be given to all those who contributed at least $1.
So that way no member has to pay very much and the programmer gets some compensation for his time and effort.

So I suppose Steve you're wondering what's in it for you? I don't really see it as competing with your AP products business because it should attract more members to the forum (and hence more potential customers). It may even directly increase your sales because if more members see that most if not all systems fail then they may come over to "the dark side" ;-).

Thoughts anyone?

I think it’s  a great idea and a boon to the forum

Shogun

I also think this is a great idea.
Something I would be interested in.

Steve

I was thinking more along the lines of a web based version of rx thats user firendly for testing custom systems. That would cost around $5000. I would pay for it but it would take a week or so to design it, so id need to find time.

Isnt rx user friendly enough? Or do you mean you can make systems more user friendly?

Steve

I mean making systems. We could partly use the mpr code, and separate spins for testing.

And i was thinking a set of simple rules the user can combine via an interface. So it will have rx functionality, without needing to learn the code. One issue is server load for multiple users doing large tests, but there are simple solutions.

Lets hear some input and various ideas. Maybe we can think of something even better, or add features.

OP is talking about crowdfund coding projects.

If anybody has a great system that requires rx testing, start a thread here.

Or steve adds a new crowdfund coding projects section

I agree, and anyway it won't solve the problem which is that nobody wants to pay a coder and no coder can be expected to work for nothing.

The General

I like the idea of coding, but here's the obvious problem.

Many system players won't accept the math that already disproves their systems, so what makes you think that they'll accept the results if you code and test their systems for them?

For example, look at the MPR.  Some of the system players actually believe that something's wrong with the MPR because their systems won't work when they play it.

RouletteProgrammer

Nice topic.

I have coded many systems in the past. Usually I do this in Python but any other language will do the job. I would like to participate in coding systems if the idea of Joe is accepted.

I dont have much experience with  Roulette Xtreme, but seems to be a bit limited to share. If you want to share the code, the users will need to have an RX licence. In other coding languages you could provide the users with a custom standalone testing environment.

Exactly.

It's a fair point, but I think most people who would dismiss the maths as being too theoretical would accept a simulation's results as long as it simulates the way they actually play (no million spin sessions). But actually I agree with you that really there's no difference in the end, only the perception is different. ;-)

I think it is still a good idea joe..would sort of unite members especially trying to see who has the best system ...

Could be whole new way bringing the forum forward

Would be fun

It’s a simple request and would not be hard to implement

I agree, but it's Steve's forum and he doesn't seem keen on the idea.

i Know let’s hope Steve reconsiders...
