Hello all,

I need to see if someone can help me with a simple problem that I am having with my Excel spreadsheet.

I have 5 rows of numbers in my spreadsheet. In those 5 rows the numbers repeat sometimes. I want to be able to display in either a column next to my spreadsheet or a row above my spreadsheet all of the unique numbers.

So if the #12 shows up three times in my spreadsheet I only want it to be displayed in the column one time.

I have an example of what I am looking for in my attached spreadsheet. Please let me know if you need any other information. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

check on Sheet2 what I've done.  A simple COUNTIF function counts how many times the nr on the left appeared in your nrs list.  This was the easiest way.  I added the feature that leaves a blank instead of writing ''0'', for ease of reading.

Now, if you really want a reduced list with only the hit nrs to appear in a column, see Sheet3.

Hope this helps.

Wow! Bigbroben thanks for your help. I believe the third sheet is what I am looking for. I need to be able to see the numbers in my chart laid out clearly because you have very little time to put your bets online.

I will have to adapt your formula to my actual spreadsheet. I will have to change the formulas to make sure I have the correct cell numbers.

I am trying to develop a new system and your help should help me to make it much more efficient. Thanks again Bigbroben. Outstanding sir!

Hey no problem!

You should make sure the setup on your sheet is easy to fill/read if you have little time to react.
Do not hesitate for further questions.

BEN! I need your help sir... please. I took your example and changed the formula so it would match the cells in my other spreadsheet, but I have a problem.

My second NR column with the numbers 19 - 37 just repeats the first several numbers in my first column with the numbers 1 - 18. Looking at your formula for the same columns it looks like they match. My spreadsheet is on the 4th tab. Thanks for your help again.

Hi,
the first value in the LOOKUP part of the formula on the right is still R2, so LOOKUP actually takes the value in R2, looks for it in the row 3 range, then returns the corresponding value in row 2.  You want the value in T2 to be searched in the second column.

Hint: check the formulas and notice the $ signs.  When a $ is written in front of a cell name (ex: $b2), even if you copy/paste the cell or slide the formula to other cells, the column B will remain.  If writing $B$2, both rows and column will be kept.  Same for B$2: keeps the row and the column is relative.
This is a handy trick when you want to distribute the same formula to many cells.  I use it all the time for parameters.  See attached.

But if you do so, make sure you really are copying the cell, and not the text on top of the screen, otherwise it will be the same text being copied.  You can easily apply a formula to the whole column by double-clicking on the square dot low/left of the chosen cell ( purple in attached pic). Or just click/hold/drag where ever you want.

Ben first... thanks for your help brother. I should have seen that because I knew what it was doing. Second... that is mental overload and I absolutely love it. I have been out of Excel for about 15 years now so I am slowly working my way back into it. Your other link showed me just how much I don't know, but need to learn.

Do you have anything that records my wins and losses? Basically I want to be able to type W or L and how much my bet was for. so if my bet was $21 then I would receive the $21 plus $ 15 for the straight up win on the number. If I lost then it would record a -$21.

I am trying to see if my system is a winner or not. Out of 25 bets the other day it won 20 times, but.... did I bet more than I won? I am trying to automate my bet so I do not have to go back and add it up myself.

The other thing that I do NOT want you to do for me is.... can you give me an idea on how I can "record" those numbers that I had selected in the green columns? I want to be able to log those or record those in to a database and save the numbers, and if the winning number matches one of the numbers in there it will record it as a win. If it is not in there then it would obviously be a loss.

I don't want you to do that for me (at least not just yet) because I want to try and figure it out myself. That should help me to get more proficient one spreadsheet at a time. So any hints on where to look would be great. Thanks again for your help BigBroBen!

Ben - this is kind of a simple spreadsheet I am looking for as far as the win loss goes so I can keep a running total. Is my math correct on the bet, win and loss? Thanks Ben.

Ben - I figured out my bet-win-loss spreadsheet (attached). I still need guidance on recording numbers then extracting the winning number if one exists in the numbers played. Thanks Ben (and all).

Holy,

I'd need more explanations on what you want to achieve.

1) What are the nrs you want to keep in the database?  How do you choose them?
2) What's the tracking length, if there is one?
3) What do you do with these nrs?  Play them, use them as reference?
4) What are the conditions to bet or not to bet?

it is possible to build a sheet that will show all nrs to be played on the right.  it is also possible to show them only on the active line or leave them appearing on the previous lines.  In any case, the point is to have a user-friendly, quick reading for quick action setup.

You can describe here or private message.
